Frequently Asked Questions

What are the normal weekly OCF cadet activities?

Mondays:

SPIRE (Special Programs In Religious Education) - SPIRE is a chapel-sponsored program that meets every Monday night at 1830 in Fairchild Hall lectinar L-4.  All the parachurch groups like OCF have their own classes.  OCF SPIRE begins with singing and announcements and then divides into small groups by class year for Bible study and prayer time.  This is the time that emphasizes more personal and small group interaction.

Thursdays:

Morning Prayer - Every Thursday morning from 0700 to 0720 cadets gather at Fairchild Hall in room 4H54 to pray for each other's needs, for the Academy, and for our leadership.  We then break so that the cadets can attend breakfast at 0725.  This prayer time is not exclusively limited to OCF cadets, but it is well-attended by OCF members and ministry team leaders.  Fourth-class cadets should get permission to miss morning minutes in order to attend.

Saturdays:

Saturday Bible Study - Every Saturday night at 1900, we gather at the Wade's for a Bible study, fellowship, and prayer. Rides leave from the Vandenburg Hall ECP at 1830.  We normally are studying a book of the Bible, chapter by chapter.  We sing praise songs for worship and then have a large group Bible study.  After the study, we divide into small groups for further discussion and prayer time.  There are always cookies and treats after the study and lots of time to relax and talk more about things of importance.

How do I get to the Wade's house?

The Wades live at 427 Fox Run Circle, just outside the north gate of the Air Force Academy.  When you go out the north gate you will drive under Interstate 25 and will then wind to the right up the hill past the Mining Museum.  At the top of the hill, take the first left into Northgate Highlands.  Go one block, follow the road to the right for one more block and you will come to a "T" on Fox Run Circle.  Turn left and go to 427 Fox Run Circle.  You are there!  Call (719) 487-9867 or email Lt Col Steve Wade if you want to contact us that way.  Come on over and visit!

What is the relationship of OCF to the chapel?

The national OCF organization believes strongly in the chapel program and encourages OCF members to support the chapel programs at their bases.  At USAFA, OCF is a part of the overall chapel program and supports the chaplains in chapel outreach, special speakers and meetings, and involvement with chapel services.

Who are the Wade's (the staff representatives at USAFA)?

The Wade's have been at USAFA since 2003.  Lt Col Wade retired after 22 years of active duty in the Air Force.  He was a navigator in the KC-135 tanker (KI Sawyer AFB), RC-135 (Offutt) and was a radar navigator in the FB-111 (Plattsburgh AFB).  He also held staff positions related to navigation and flying and was an AOC at USAFA in cadet squadron 31.  Steve and his wife, Rita, were both on Campus Crusade staff before coming into the Air Force.

How can I support the OCF work at USAFA?

There are two ways you can support the cadet ministry at USAFA.  The most important way is to pray for the Wade's, the chaplains, and the cadets.  Pray that God's Word would be clearly taught and understood by cadets.  Pray that cadets would clearly come face-to-face with Almighty God and know for sure that they have accepted God's gift of salvation and eternal life.  Another way is to give to the national OCF organization and designate it for the "USAFA OCF ministry."  These gifts can be sent to OCF at P.O. Box 1177, Englewood, Colorado 80150.  There is also a fund to help offset the costs of weekend retreats and make them more affordable to cadets.  Send these gifts directly to the Wade's (payable to OCF) at 427 Fox Run Circle, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80921 and designate them for "retreat scholarships."
